It keeps everything covered and protected from the elements. Mulch is one of the most overlooked things when it comes to soil. Wood chips serve as not only a protective layer but they also help retain moisture and keep the temperature of the soil more stable. Don’t forget to protect your investment (the soil) with wood chips.
Application Rate: Compost should be applied atleast 3x a year. 1. Valentines Day, 2. Memorial Day, 3. Labor Day.
Application Quantity Recommendations
Gardens: Topdress with 2-4 inches of woodchips on top.
Raised Beds: Topdress with 2-4 inches of woodchips.
All Plants: Keep a 2-4 inch layer around the base of the plant. The wider the better.
